Milestones

INCEIF University was set up by Bank Negara Malaysia to develop human capital and knowledge leadership for the global Islamic finance industry.

DECEMBER 2005

Established by Bank Negara Malaysia.

NOVEMBER 2006

Conferred University status by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.

MAY 2007

INCEIF confers an Honorary Doctorate to Saudi philanthropist Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.

JUNE 2007

The inaugural intake of 38 Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) students. The CIFP is a postgraduate qualification aimed at producing professionals with the knowledge, analytical tools and perspectives in Islamic finance. Students build their knowledge through coursework on Shariah Aspects of Business and Finance, the Islamic Capital Market, Reporting of Islamic Financial Transactions, Ethics & Governance and Takaful & Actuarial Practices.

JANUARY 2008

PhD in Islamic Finance (Coursework & Dissertation) and PhD (Research) are introduced. This multidisciplinary and research-based doctoral programme imparts the skills to expand a candidate’s theoretical knowledge into a comprehensive understanding of Islamic finance in the rapidly evolving industry.

MAY 2008

International Shariah Research Academy For Islamic Finance (ISRA) is established to promote applied research in Shariah and Islamic finance. ISRA has provided platforms for greater engagement amongst practitioners, scholars, regulators and academicians via research and dialogue.

FEBRUARY 2009

INCEIF Inaugural Convocation with 32 CIFP graduates.

AUGUST 2009

Accorded Project of National Interest Status (Projek Berkepentingan Negara).

OCTOBER 2010

INCEIF confers Doctorate of Science (Islamic Banking) Honoris causa to Islamic Development Bank President Dr Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani at its 2nd convocation.

APRIL 2012

INCEIF signs an MoU with the World Bank, becoming the 3rd university in the world to become the Bank’s partner, to promote in-depth research in Islamic finance.

JUNE 2012

  • The new campus for INCEIF at Lorong Universiti A, Kuala Lumpur, is officially opened by HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, The Crown Prince of Perak Darul Ridzuan and Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) Financial Ambassador.
  • ISRA Consultancy is established to offer bespoke consulting and advisory services in Shariah-related matters specific to an organisation’s requirements and needs.

SEPTEMBER 2013

  • The Industrial PhD is introduced to recognise the importance of the various life experiences and wealth of knowledge. Open to working professionals from the public and private sectors with endless possibilities towards formulating globally accepted new frameworks, policies, concepts and theories.
  • MSc in Islamic Finance, a thorough knowledge programme in areas of Islamic finance, Islamic economics and Shariah from theoretical and applied aspects, is introduced. Graduates gain a comprehensive understanding of the economic, financial and legal environment.

JUNE 2014

The CIFP is replaced with the new and enhanced programme, Masters of Islamic Finance Practice (MIFP).

NOVEMBER 2015

In conjunction with INCEIF’s 10th Anniversary, the INCEIF Endowment Fund is established.

SEPTEMBER 2016

The Professional Certificate in Islamic Finance programme is introduced for working professionals seeking to explore a career in Islamic finance or find their niche in a particular industry to choose from; Banking, Shariah, Capital Market, Takaful & Wealth Management, and Shariah Audit & Compliance.

NOVEMBER 2016

IF InnoFest, an annual platform for Islamic Finance proponents to brainstorm on IF innovations, was launched.

JANUARY 2018

The Action Based Learning (ABL) programme is introduced to provide students with the opportunities to work with leading practitioners on topical industry issues related to Islamic finance and sustainability.

OCTOBER 2018

INCEIF is awarded the Islamic Economy Knowledge Infrastructure award at the 2018 Islamic Economy Award in Dubai.

NOVEMBER 2018

INCEIF joined the ranks of the top five per cent of business schools in the world with an AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation.

AUGUST 2019

INCEIF academic female staff and alumni who contributed to the Islamic finance industry received international acknowledgement when 16 made it to the list of the top 300 influential women in Islamic finance and dominated the list compiled by the Cambridge IFA WOMANi report, a UK-based financial services intelligence firm.

DECEMBER 2019

INCEIF confers an Honorary Doctorate in Islamic Finance to Sultan Perak HRH Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah in recognition of HRH’s contribution to the growth and development of Islamic finance in the domestic and global financial arena.

JANUARY 2020

The online Executive Masters In Islamic Finance is introduced and designed for working professionals by conventional and Shariah finance scholars. It focuses on Data Analytics, Business Strategy and Social Finance while acquiring the ability to analyse and develop solutions for modern business.

MARCH 2020

Following the Malaysian Government’s directive nationwide, INCEIF is closed effective 18 March, due to the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak. By April, teaching and learning at INCEIF resumed, albeit exclusively online, as Malaysia and most of the world went into strict lockdown.

JUNE 2020

INCEIF received a four-star recognition from ‘Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA).

SEPTEMBER 2020

MBA (SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS) is introduced. It is offered in a modular structure to allow students to balance their personal and professional commitments while moving forward in their careers. It imparts comprehensive knowledge in personnel and business management, strategic planning, data analytics, and sustainability in management and investment.

DECEMBER 2020

INCEIF maintains MoHE’s 5-Star Excellent Education Provider Rating.

JULY 2021

Following a reassessment of our priorities, we strengthened our goal as the global knowledge leader in Islamic finance following consolidation with ISRA and ISRA Consulting, evolving into one entity that consolidated the best in academic and executive training programmes, research, advisory and consultancy works on Islamic finance, Shariah, digital economy and sustainability. With the union, INCEIF, ISRA and ISRA Consulting will optimise each other’s efficiency and robustness as we align our strategic goals.

AUGUST 2021

ISRA Research Management Centre, INCEIF’s research management arm is acknowledged as the “Best Research House” by the Hong Kong-based Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2021.

OCTOBER 2021

The Ministry of Higher Education approved the name change of the International Centre For Education In Islamic Finance (INCEIF) to INCEIF University. As INCEIF gained an international reputation, recognised for its faculty, quality of academics, graduates and accreditations, the name change led to a refocused identity, mission and strategic vision to better serve students, alums, partners, stakeholders and other external constituencies.

JANUARY 2022

  • INCEIF Micro-Certification MBA (Sustainable business)  is introduced, a face-to-face programme that allows learners to interact with experienced leaders where industry experts share the practical aspects of Islamic Finance and sustainable business.
  • As the percentage of the fully vaccinated population in Malaysia increases, INCEIF re-opens the campus for the January 2022 Semester. Our fully vaccinated staff resumed working at the office while we adhered to social distancing. All teaching and learning commenced on a dual mode of online and face-to-face on campus.
  • INCEIF Micro-Certification programme is introduced for the convenience of a personalised education at a learner’s pace without worrying about a long-term commitment while maintaining a work-life balance.

JUNE 2022

The Centre of Excellence Islamic Social Finance is set up to drive research excellence within INCEIF University and implement the university’s initiatives towards financial inclusion for all, as well as support the UN SDGs.

OCTOBER 2022

  • INCEIF University appoints Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus as the second Chancellor of INCEIF University. She succeeded Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, one of the founders of INCEIF
  • Sultan Perak, HRH Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah, officiates the launch of INCEIF University’s new campus
