A Brief Introduction

Assoc Professor Dr Ismail Abdel Mohsin is an academic, researcher and author specialising in Islamic economics, Islamic finance, waqf, zakat and Islamic social finance. Her research focuses on developing contemporary Islamic economic and financial frameworks that address real-world challenges while integrating Maqasid al-Shariah, social justice, human well-being, sustainability and falāḥ.

She has published extensively on waqf, Islamic social finance and Islamic economics, with her work increasingly focusing on institutional governance, impact measurement and the role of Islamic social finance in sustainable development.

Her recent research includes the SAMI-SD Model, which connects Maqasid al-Shariah with sustainable development, and the Falah Development Index (FalahDI), which explores a broader approach to measuring material and spiritual well-being beyond conventional economic indicators. 

She is also involved in the development of the INCEIF Impact Index Model (IIIM) for assessing material and spiritual welfare, integrating Maqasid al-Shariah, Tawhidi epistemology, MADANI values, the Sustainable Development Goals and Value-based Intermediation across multiple dimensions of human and societal well-being. 

Her research also continues to explore waqf governance and waqf-linked financial innovation, including institutional roles in waqf management and mechanisms for mobilising waqf assets for productive and sustainable development.
