A Brief Introduction
Dr Kartina Md Ariffin is a Teaching Fellow at INCEIF University with over 27 years of experience in the Takaful industry, spanning academia, regulation, standard-setting, consultancy and industry practice.
Prior to joining INCEIF on 3 August 2026, she served as Subject Matter Expert for Takaful at the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) for nine years. In this role, she was responsible for developing Takaful-related learning content and syllabus, as well as delivering professional training programmes to practitioners across the local and international Takaful industry.
Before joining IBFIM, Dr Kartina spent eight years with the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) as a Principal Specialist, where she managed working groups responsible for developing international prudential standards for the Islamic financial services industry. She contributed significantly to the development of the IFSB prudential framework for Takaful and supported the implementation of these standards through capacity-building programmes for regulators, supervisors and industry practitioners worldwide.
Her regulatory and technical assistance experience includes engagements with IFSB member jurisdictions such as Morocco and Tajikistan, while her earlier industry experience includes roles with Etiqa Insurance & Takaful and Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad, covering corporate planning, organisational restructuring, business process improvement, Takaful model enhancement and Family Takaful product development.
Dr Kartina holds a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where her doctoral research focused on developing a sustainable microtakaful model for the B40 community in Malaysia. She also holds a Master’s in Islamic Finance from INCEIF and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Actuarial Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA.
