Dr. Suhaimi Mohd Yusof
A Brief Introduction
Dr. Suhaimi Bin Mohd Yusof is a distinguished Shariah scholar and Islamic finance expert with over 25 years of experience spanning regulatory leadership, policy development, and Shariah governance. His career reflects a rare depth of involvement in shaping the foundations of Islamic finance at both national and international levels.
He previously served as Head of Shariah/Deputy Director at Bank Negara Malaysia (2009–2023), where he played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s Islamic finance ecosystem. His contributions include the development of Shariah governance frameworks, involvement in the formulation of the Islamic Financial Services Act (IFSA), and leadership of the Secretariat for the Shariah Advisory Council. His work has been instrumental in strengthening regulatory clarity and operational integrity across the industry.
Dr. Suhaimi was also closely involved in the establishment of ISRA and the development of Shariah standards and operational requirements, further reinforcing Malaysia’s global leadership in Islamic finance.
He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies (Shariah) from the University of Aberdeen, with research focusing on Bay’ al-Murabaha and Maqasid al-Shariah in Islamic finance.
Post-retirement, he continues to contribute actively to the industry as a Shariah Committee member for Maybank Islamic, a Shariah Advisory Board member for Syarikat Takaful Malaysia, and as an advisor to various Islamic finance institutions. He also serves as External Advisor for Islamic Finance at AlBukhari International University.
At INCEIF University, Dr. Suhaimi brings his extensive regulatory and Shariah governance experience to support the development of the PhD in Muamalat programme, enriching academic direction with real-world industry and policy perspectives.
