A Brief Introduction
Professor Obiyathulla Ismath Bacha is Professor of Finance at INCEIF University. Previously, he held key positions at the International Islamic University Malaysia, including as Director of the Management Center, where he established the MBA and MoMgt programmes. He began his career at Malayan Banking Berhad before becoming an Assistant Professor of Finance at Boston University, where he received the Allen E. Beckwith Teaching Award.
He served as President of the Malaysian Finance Association for 5 years (2013–2017) and has been a trainer at institutions such as the Securities Commission and the Central Bank of Malaysia. He was adjunct Professor at the University of Luxembourg and has conducted training programs at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University, Borsa Istanbul and Bank Maisara among others.
Prof. Obiyathulla has published more than 80 scholarly papers, authored textbooks on Financial Derivatives and Islamic Capital Markets, and consulted for the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Islamic Financial Services Board, and UNESCAP. He has served on Shariah committees for SABANA REIT and HSBC Amanah and was Advisor to Great Eastern Life Assurance for its Shariah Compliant Equity funds. He writes an op-ed piece in the EDGE.
