Associate Dean Prof Dr Aishath Muneeza, INCEIF University’s Subject Matter Expert on Shariah and Law, has consistently made it to the list of influential women in Islamic finance. A Maldivian, she is considered one of the founders of the Islamic finance industry in Maldives, as she was a driving force behind the setting up of a number of institutions offering Islamic finance in her country.
As a policy maker, attorney and academician who has tirelessly fought for the sustainable development of Islamic finance in her country, she is a role model and a mentor for numerous women who aspire to develop a career in Islamic finance. Here, Prof Aishath shares her career journey on Maldives’ national TV station TV Maldives.
INCEIF’s Professor Dr. Aishath Muneeza has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Uto Edu Consult of Sri Lanka, handed over by the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, for her outstanding contributions to the Islamic finance industry.
Prof. Dr. Muneeza has been a pioneer in introducing innovative Islamic finance solutions to the Maldives. Recently, she has been appointed to the Shariah Committee of the country’s first full-fledged Islamic bank and HDFC Amna’s Shariah Committee. She also serves as an independent board director of Amana Takaful Maldives, the first Islamic finance company in the nation.
