Prof Dr Obiyathulla Engages with Cabinet Ministers on Economic and Investment Strategies

Kuala Lumpur 22 Feb 2025 – Prof Dr Obiyathulla Ismath Bacha, Professor of Finance at INCEIF University, shared his insights as one of the invited speakers at the Malaysian Cabinet Minister’s Retreat, which took place on 21 – 22 February 2025 at PETRONAS Leadership Centre in Bangi, Selangor.

The retreat, attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Cabinet Ministers, serves as a platform for healthy discourse, exploring fresh ideas, and challenging norms. It also aims to strengthen the Government’s delivery in progressing Malaysia forward, ensuring unity and joint ownership in governance. The programme featured keynote addresses, expert-led discussions, and group deliberations on strategic national issues, culminating in ministerial presentations.

Prof Obiyathulla participated in the discussions and delivered a presentation on `Unlocking Malaysia’s Competitive Edge – Strategies & Funding Solutions’ during the Sustainable Economy & Strategic Investment session which was moderated by Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry, Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. The session focussed on aligning policies and strategies under, among others, Ekonomi MADANI and RMK-13 to strengthen Malaysia’s talent ecosystem, enhance linkages between financial institutions, learning institutions, and industries, and ensure that jobs, employment, and TVET initiatives meet evolving industry needs and global competitiveness.

Additionally, he contributed as a Technical Expert in the following Breakout Session and Group Presentation which was facilitated by Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Dato’ Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour.
