INCEIF University Celebrates the Reappointment of Dr Marjan Muhammad to SC Shariah Advisory Council

Kuala Lumpur, 2 July 2026 – INCEIF University proudly celebrates the reappointment of Dr Marjan Muhammad, Deputy President of Research at the ISRA Institute, to the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) for a three-year term, effective 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029.

The council members, appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, comprise prominent Shariah scholars, academicians, and market practitioners responsible for ensuring that Malaysia’s Islamic capital market (ICM) strictly complies with Shariah principles.

As a cornerstone of INCEIF University’s research excellence, Dr Marjan’s reappointment highlights the institution’s continuous role in shaping high-level regulatory frameworks and driving thought leadership in the global Islamic finance ecosystem. In her current role at the ISRA Institute, Dr Marjan oversees critical portfolios including research and innovation, research management, publication, research commercialisation, and the prominent Islamic finance online database, I-FIKR.

Beyond her strategic contributions to the SC, Dr Marjan also serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and sits on several international boards, including the Advisory Committee of Experts of Lotus Bank Limited and the Shariah Supervisory Board of Lotus Capital Limited in Nigeria.

The newly constituted seven-member council features one new appointee, Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar. Alongside Dr Marjan, the reappointed members include Professor Dr Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali (IIUM), Datuk Dr Ashraf Md Hashim (Shariah Consultant), Prof Datuk Dr Asmadi Mohamed Naim (Mufti of Pahang), Datuk Dr Anhar Opir (Mufti of Selangor), and Burhanuddin Lukman (Former ISRA Researcher).

Established on 16 May 1996 under the Securities Commission Malaysia Act 1993, the SAC acts as the ultimate authority for the ascertainment of Shariah principles in ICM businesses and transactions, serving as the central reference point for the industry.
