Kuala Lumpur, 31 December 2025 — INCEIF University congratulates Dato’ Prof Dr Ashraf Md Hashim, Professor at INCEIF University, on his reappointment as a member of the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for the term 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028, as announced by Bank Negara Malaysia pursuant to Section 53(1) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009.
Dato’ Prof Dr Ashraf currently serves as Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council, a role he holds alongside his academic appointment at INCEIF University.
The SAC is the highest authority for the ascertainment of Islamic law for purposes of Islamic financial business in Malaysia. It is central in promoting Shariah certainty and sustaining public confidence in the Islamic finance industry. The SAC also advises BNM on Shariah issues relating to Islamic financial businesses, activities or transactions of BNM. The rulings of the SAC serve as a reference for Islamic financial institutions in ensuring their business operations comply with Shariah principles. The rulings may also serve as a reference for the courts and arbitrators.
INCEIF is especially proud that members of its academic and research community continue to be represented on the Shariah Advisory Council. In addition to Dato’ Prof Dr Ashraf, the SAC includes Dr. Marjan Muhammad, Deputy President Research, ISRA Institute, INCEIF University, and Prof Dr Amir Shaharuddin, Director of the Centre of Excellence in Islamic Social Finance, ISRA Institute.This representation reflects the University’s continued contribution to national Shariah governance and Islamic finance policy development.
The University also records its appreciation for Datuk Prof Dr Mohamad Akram Laldin, Professor at INCEIF University, who completes his service on the SAC on 31 December 2025 after serving since 1 November 2008. His longstanding contributions have been instrumental in shaping Shariah governance and strengthening Malaysia’s Islamic finance ecosystem.
