INCEIF and Maybank Islamic Reaffirm Commitment to Nurturing Islamic Finance Talent

Kuala Lumpur, 4 August 2025 – The Maybank Islamic Postgraduate Sponsorship Programme Award Ceremony 2025 held at Dataran Maybank today, underscored the bank’s long-term investment in education and talent development, particularly in the field of Islamic banking and finance.

A total of 37 students were awarded sponsorships this year, with INCEIF University accounting for 19 of the recipients; 10 receiving full sponsorships and 9 awarded one-off academic incentives. Demonstrating the international footprint of the programme, recipients come from 10 countries spanning multiple regions, including Albania, Canada, and Sierra Leone.

INCEIF’s management was represented by Deputy President Operations Dr Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim.

INCEIF is once again honoured to be part of the prestigious postgraduate sponsorship programme, a testament to the university’s continued excellence and relevance in shaping the future of the Islamic finance industry. As one of the selected institutions in Malaysia, INCEIF shares a deep strategic alignment with Maybank Islamic in nurturing ethical, professional, and globally competent talent to drive innovation and sustainability within the Islamic financial ecosystem.

What sets this sponsorship programme apart is its non-bonding policy as recipients are not contractually obligated to serve the bank, offering them the flexibility to contribute to the industry in diverse ways, both locally and internationally. This reflects the programme’s broader mission: to support the development of high-potential individuals who can uplift the Islamic finance sector through knowledge, research, and practice.

Mr Munawwaruzzaman Mahmud, Head of Shariah Management at Maybank Islamic, presented the scholarship offer documents to the recipients at the event.

The Programme is open to all first- or second-semester Master’s or PhD students in Islamic Banking and Finance, enrolled in local institutions of higher learning. Open to both domestic and international students under the age of 35, it also strengthens Malaysia’s position as a hub for Islamic finance education and thought leadership.

As INCEIF continues to expand its impact through academic excellence, research, and industry engagement, collaborations such as this sponsorship programme with leading industry players are critical in realising its vision, which is to advance Islamic finance for the greater good of society. Together with Maybank Islamic, INCEIF remains committed to developing a new generation of Islamic finance professionals who are equipped to lead in an increasingly dynamic and interconnected world.
