Kuala Lumpur, 22 October 2025 – INCEIF University today announced the appointment of Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar as the new Pro-Chancellor. He succeeds Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar, who served as the second Pro-Chancellor from October 2022 to June of this year.
INCEIF extends its heartfelt appreciation to Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud for his distinguished service and guidance as Pro-Chancellor. His visionary leadership and wisdom have been instrumental in shaping INCEIF’s growth and strengthening its position as a global leader in Islamic finance education.
Tan Sri Abdul Wahid brings to INCEIF a wealth of experience that spans both the corporate and public sectors. He has held several key leadership positions in Malaysia’s foremost organisations, including serving as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Group Berhad (2001–2004), Group CEO of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (2004–2008), and President & CEO of Malayan Banking Berhad (2008–2013). During his tenure at Maybank, he spearheaded the ‘Islamic first’ strategy, which positioned Maybank Islamic as the largest Islamic bank in Malaysia and a recognised global leader in Islamic finance.
His strategic vision and steadfast commitment to good governance have left a lasting impact on Malaysia’s financial and corporate landscape.
In the public sector, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid served as a Senator and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic Planning) from 2013 to 2016, where he was responsible for national economic policy coordination and development. He later continued to contribute to nation-building through his appointments as Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (2016-2018) and Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad (2020–2025), among other leadership roles in corporate and educational institutions.
With his extensive background in finance, governance, and education, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid, who is also a Professor of Practice at INCEIF, is exceptionally well-placed to guide INCEIF in advancing its mission to serve as a global knowledge leader in Islamic finance and sustainable economic development.
Together with Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus, former Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia and current Chancellor of INCEIF University, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid’s new role reinforces the University’s commitment to leadership excellence and thought partnership in advancing Islamic finance and sustainable economic development.
The appointments of such luminaries further strengthen INCEIF’s continued strategic aims and role in developing talent and embarking on applied research and training to become a knowledge and thought leader in Islamic finance.
