INCEIF University Champions Sustainability with Successful 5R Day Initiative

INCEIF Campus, 1 Oct 2025 – INCEIF University has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and community well-being with the successful organisation of its 5R Day initiative, held recently at its campus. Themed around the principles of Rethink, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, and Repurpose, the initiative brought together students, staff, and partners in a collective effort to embrace sustainable habits and reduce environmental impact.

The programme, championed by the University Social Responsibility Unit from the Campus Facilities Services Department, featured a range of engaging and practical activities designed to raise awareness and encourage direct action:

  • Awareness Talk: Ms Sherlina Melissa from KLOTH Circularity delivered a talk on the growing global movement of fabric recycling, underscoring the importance of keeping clothes and textiles out of landfills and incinerators, while promoting circularity in the fashion and textile industry.
  • Used Cooking Oil Drive: In collaboration with Arus Oil, participants were encouraged to bring in their collected used cooking oil from home in exchange for cash. The oil, which will be converted into bio-diesel, demonstrates how household waste can be repurposed into a valuable renewable energy source.
  • Clothes & Textiles Donation: Donations were channeled to both KLOTH Circularity (for recycling) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pendidikan Amal Asyura (preloved items for sale), reflecting a dual impact of environmental sustainability and social contribution.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity and support from the INCEIF community, the initiative surpassed its original targets and recorded significant outcomes:

  • 875.1 kg of clothing, textiles and fabric donated to KLOTH Circularity, far exceeding the initial target of 300 kg.
  • 179.2 kg of clothing, along with toys, shoes, and bags donated to Pertubuhan Asyura, benefitting underprivileged its 36 children between the ages 3 and 16 years old who are from B40 families and underprivileged orphans.
  • 70 kg of used cooking oil collected by Arus Oil for conversion into bio-diesel to power industrial vehicles and machines.
  • 17 items of e-waste gathered, ranging from laptops and CPUs to household appliances, further reducing landfill contributions.

These achievements are not merely about the numbers, but about cultivating a culture of sustainability within the INCEIF community. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire lasting behavioural change -encouraging individuals to practice the 5R principles not just at events, but in their daily lives.

The success of 5R Day highlights the importance of partnerships in advancing sustainability goals. By working with organisations such as KLOTH Circularity, Pertubuhan Asyura, and Arus Oil, INCEIF was able to amplify its impact across environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

INCEIF University extends its heartfelt appreciation to all staff, students, and partners who took part in the event. This initiative is part of the University’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its ethos—aligning with its mission to produce responsible leaders and to contribute positively to the wider community.
