INCEIF WELCOMES CIMB ISLAMIC CEO AHMAD SHAHRIMAN AS A SENATE MEMBER

Kuala Lumpur, 5 March 2025 – INCEIF University is pleased to announce the appointment of CIMB Islamic Bank Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director and CIMB Foundation Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff as a Senate Member.

The university’s Senate contributes to discussions on the academic direction, and industry relevance, ensuring high standards in teaching, research and training.

Mr Shahriman heads the Group Islamic Banking business of CIMB Group that includes Islamic wholesale banking, Islamic consumer banking, Islamic commercial banking and Islamic asset management and investment across the key markets of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. He previously headed the Wholesale Banking at HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad as Director, and served as the Head of Islamic Banking at Citibank Berhad prior to that.

He has over two decades of experience in the corporate and financial service sectors, of which 17 years were in Islamic Banking and Finance-related leadership roles. He played an active role in the development of Malaysia’s Islamic banking industry, with a longstanding role in the Treasury Committee of the Association of Islamic Banks in Malaysia (AIBIM). In this capacity, he was involved in instrumental industry initiatives such as developing, amongst others, a commodity exchange for Islamic finance purposes, Islamic structured products, documentation standards for Islamic derivatives as well as an Islamic credit support mechanism.

Under these leadership roles, Mr Shahriman has been an instrumental contributor towards the growth of the Islamic banking and finance industry with the introduction of global award-winning capital markets and treasury solutions. He has strong leadership, technical, legal and risk management expertise gained from his stint in these cross-border institutions.

As a postgraduate university focusing on Islamic Finance studies, INCEIF is honoured to have experienced professionals and industry experts onboard as they joined current Governing Bodies of INCEIF.  The illustrious personalities include INCEIF Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, the former Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad; and Mr Adnan Zaylani Mohd Zahid, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia.

Over the years, INCEIF has leveraged on the wealth of experience and knowledge of its Board of Directors and University Senate which comprised prominent regulators, scholars and captains of industry to set and guide the university’s direction to be the knowledge and thought leader in Islamic finance, and recently to include the sustainable agenda.

INCEIF also benefits from the largest pool of Islamic finance experts under one roof with faculty members coming from academia and industry. With a faculty of such strength, INCEIF has provided its students and graduates with value added insights and skills, bridging the gap between academic rigour and industry’s needs.
